Vocational Training

The most unusual aspect of the Koumori Dojo system is the Vocational Training aspect.  Every class is divided into four sections, which switch off providing a variety of services:

1)  General Construction/Renovation — students aid in the construction and renovation of buildings on the Koumori Dojo campus, as well as providing services through the Koumori Dojo nonprofit organization, building low-income housing in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods.

2)  Janitorial/Maintenance — students clean and maintain the Koumori Dojo facilities.

3)  Landscape/Gardening — students maintain and develop the grounds on the Koumori Dojo campus, as well as providing services for the Koumori Dojo parks development nonprofit.

4)  Cooking — students provide meals for their fellow students, as well as to the economically disadvantaged through the Kourmori Dojo nonprofit.

While many students object at first to the Vocational aspect of Koumori Dojo training, it is absolutely essential for a variety of reasons.  The first among them is that experience in these four fields provides students with a ready means of income (however modest) even in foreign urban environments.  The second is that occupations in the aforementioned fields are the most often overlooked in urban environments; this provides an advantage in hostile conditions.  The third is to learn humility; pride is the enemy of stealth.
